Valve has introduced local currency into Steam for the Eurozone and what they did is outrageous! All prices have been changed 1 on 1 from the Dollar to the Euro. That means that what used to be $19,99 is now €19,99.

Combine that with the weak Dollar ($1 ~ €0,70 / €1 ~ $1,40) and it's pretty obvious that people in the Eurozone are getting stiffed.

Now is the time for Stardock to launch an all-out media offensive and take a large bite out of the digital sales market in the Eurozone. Bon Apetit!

No official reaction from Valve exists at the moment.

It's not mandatory. Stop going ape over a beta.

The "enable/disable european shop beta" selection is gone, so apparently that's not the case anymore. Great job supporting the local retailers, Valve

I'll do my impulse shopping through Impulse from now on. Or would, if it had anything that interest me, the selection is quite poor, im afraid

Doesnt impulse do the same?

Or am i missing someething with my limited experience in buying in Impulse?

EDIT:

It seems it does  conver 1-1 in some items, and in others it does the right conversion.. for instance for supreme commander: forged alliance it does 1-1

Only if the publisher's contract dictates special pricing does it do it, in which case it's out of our control (the only alternative would be to not sell that product at all). Otherwise everything is simply at current exchange.

I think this is another classical example of what can infuriate people to resort to piracy.
Not saying it's right or wrong, just that it pisses people off needlessly.

Thanks for the clarification

I just verified it and you're right.. preordered Elemental for around 35 euros

Is there a new version of Steam rolling out, what is in Beta cycle.  I thought Steam has been out for quite a while now, if not for at least a million years.  But then, with the arival of impulse, it is like the beginning of the demise of dinosaur Steam.

They didn't switch over 1:1 for everything. The Valve Complete Pack is listed as EUR 89.99 including VAT, used to be USD 99.99 and I had to add 25% for VAT (USD 124.99).

Most of you people shouldn't complain, Australia and New Zealand are the two countries that get shafted all the time on steam, we can't purchase off certain publishers, we get delayed launches, and we have to sometimes almost double what many of you have to pay.

I'd like to complain about your complaint about us complaining. Just because your complaining is validated doesn't invalidate the complaints of someone else.

Can't we all just agree on the fact that we're both fucked, instead of arguing on a bench, like two drunken pensioners, on who's getting shafted the worst?

(Half-Life 2 is awesome, though.)

It certainly is...

I think this is another classical example of what can infuriate people to resort to piracy.

People don`t resort to piracy because they`re infuriated, They do it because they`re deadbeats.  People want things for nothing.  No one want`s to work for anything anymore.  I think PC piracy is a syptom of societal decay.  What happened to honour, Taking a man`s word as gold.  It`s gone.  People will try and get away with anything they can.  Stealling content on the internet is the easiest crime going, It`s anonymous.  We have lawyer`s and written contract`s now.  It`s not as simple as saying I`ll do one thing, Then provide the service I agreed too.  Oh no, Can`t do that anymore.  We have to look for the "angle".  What can I get out of it.  I wish we could bring back our old fashioned value`s.  There was a clear definition between right and wrong, People know when they`re doing something they shouldn`t. In my opion, Liberalism represent`s the ill`s of society.  There is no wrong.  Thievies, Murderer`s, Drug addict`s and the absolute bottom of the barrell of society are looked upon with sympothy and mercy.  Fuck them, They`re a plague on the rest of us.  If I offeneded any upstanding, Hardworking people with this post(You know who you are).  I apologize.

Love those blanket statements and one sided value system comments. Nonetheless many people do resort to infringement when they cant get the product legally or even reasonably. In my opinion conservatism especially the fundamentalist religious version of it represents the bane of society and abject naked greed fostered by a false sense of entitlement and pompous righteousness are the foundation of its ills.
