Valve has introduced local currency into Steam for the Eurozone and what they did is outrageous! All prices have been changed 1 on 1 from the Dollar to the Euro. That means that what used to be $19,99 is now €19,99.

Combine that with the weak Dollar ($1 ~ €0,70 / €1 ~ $1,40) and it's pretty obvious that people in the Eurozone are getting stiffed.

Now is the time for Stardock to launch an all-out media offensive and take a large bite out of the digital sales market in the Eurozone. Bon Apetit!

No official reaction from Valve exists at the moment.

i have Portal, a very interesting and cool game, however as we recently lost internet connection, and changed to another provider, my access to the game went completely down. I had to have a connection to the internet in order to play it. Hmmm.... i was very disappointed in this. The game i bought at Best Buy and thought it was great, it was 19.99, pretty reasonable, yet i still could not access it when not connected. This has made me rethink that even liking the game, it isnt worth the problem. My family has been talking about getting rid of internet all together because of the cost right now, and it is seen as a not necessary thing.

Anyway, im not sure what to do about that except to not buy valve games anymore, and then if we lose the internet, i can still play the game. Some games of course are internet games and you have to have it if you want them. But other than Everquest and when i played WOW last year i dont really play those alot.

Anyway, i agree that valve may not be the best way to go, and even though i have to have impulse to download the update, i can move it over to my machine from my parents.

Take care and Merry Christmas!!

The western world runs on this fondation.  Thank you for your reply, I respect your opion.

I do yours as well and will defend it despite the fact I emphatically disagree with it, but that is what is so gosh darn awesome about liberalism. We can agree to disagree and still tolerate each other for the collective good of the community.

Love those blanket statements and one sided value system comments.

It is good to know at least someone recognizes elegant poetic irony.

I cannot and will not try to argue this.  I quite honestly crave disagreement.  It`s the best learning tool availible to us.  I see the truth in what you`re saying, You`re right.  We want the same ending, We just have different idea`s of to get there.   We will not agree on this.  If we exchange idea`s between each other, We will be far better off then if we hadn`t.  I appreciate your opion, Because I can learn from it.  I just think people need a harder edge.  There has to be real consequence`s.  I`ve seen in my own family how well appeasment work`s.  It doesn`t.  It just makes the problem worse.  There has to be check`s and balance`s in life.  Those check`s must be enforced.  This goes beyond PC piracy, That`s a syptom of the problem.  I just see the decay of society.  It scare`s me.  Where are we going?  We need to turn this thing around.  Theft, Sex, Graphic violence are the order of the day.  What?  I love freedom of speech and expression.  Those are the principle`s that give us our greatest streagth  They are also the principle`s that are leading us into our own destruction.  I`m not trying to preach, I`m not a religous man.  I`m concerned, I want to leave the world a better place then it was when I arrived.

Yes - Portal, can't forget that . Great game. Absolutely the best ending of any game.

As far as your troubles go - there is an offline mode in Steam, and these days it works quite well (unlike how it worked a while back).

I use both Impulse and Steam - they're not mutually exclusive. These days, however, I'm increasingly having to decide which system to buy the game in, because there's so many games both of them have.

Quoting 3HavoC, reply 23Most of you people shouldn't complain, Australia and New Zealand are the two countries that get shafted all the time on steam, we can't purchase off certain publishers, we get delayed launches, and we have to sometimes almost double what many of you have to pay.I'd like to complain about your complaint about us complaining. Just because your complaining is validated doesn't invalidate the complaints of someone else.
Can't we all just agree on the fact that we're both fucked, instead of arguing on a bench, like two drunken pensioners, on who's getting shafted the worst?

I wasn't invalidating various arguements just stating that some people shouldn't complain about prices on steam.  While you are paying x amount we have to pay 2x, last I checked your not being actively being discriminated by publishers on steam who want you to pay double for everything and restrict what you can buy off steam or in general having to wait nearly 6 months for a launch of a game a classic example is that we are still waiting for Rock Band to be even released here.

I think its stupid aswell. But pretty much only becouse i got the games that much cheaper to start with.

Its a general problem with online distribution. An american make alot less money then a danish person would. But an american dont pay 50% of his income in tax. Dont have to pay 100.000$ for a car and 2$ for a liter of fuel. And so on.

So now suddenly we in europe can buy games at the same price an american could. We are bound to get it that much cheaper. Buying EWoM cost me 266 DKK = 49,95 USD with Impulse. Should i buy it in a store it would be 400 DKK wich is normal retail price for new PC games in denmark.

Also this isnt new from steam. I remmeber with CoD4:MW it would cost 89.95$ on steam becouse i lived in denmark.
That would mean 89.95$ = 479 DKK wich meant i didnt get it on steam but bought it in my local store for 400 DKK instead.

Ah... offline mode, thank you, i will have to look at that when i launch it, thank you for the help and like you, i see many new games it would be wonderful to have.     Haha, its affording all of them that is the problem for me.
